How to add page numbers and Annexure labels to a PDF
Court filings, tenders and office files need numbered pages and clearly labelled annexures. Doing it by hand on paper is slow and error-prone.
Add page numbers
- Open Page numbers & stamps and drop the PDF.
- Choose a style: 1, Page 1, Page 1 of 40, 1 / 40, - 1 -, or Bates numbers such as ABC-000001.
- Choose the position (for example bottom centre or top right), size and colour.
- Choose which pages to number: leave it empty for all pages, or type a range such as 2-40 to skip the cover page. Set the first number if numbering should start at 1 on that page, or continue from an earlier volume.
- Download. Numbers are added as real text, so they can be searched and stay sharp when printed.
Stamp Annexure and Exhibit labels
- In the same tool, choose a label: Annexure-A, Annexure P-1, Exhibit A, Schedule 1, or type your own.
- Pick the pages where each annexure starts.
- Place the label, usually at the top right of the first page of the annexure.
Good habits for filings
- Match the page numbers in your index to the final numbered file
- Keep labels the same style throughout (Annexure-A, Annexure-B…, not a mix)
- Check your court's or department's e-filing rules for size limits, paper size and whether bookmarks are needed
- If the file is too big for the portal, compress it after numbering: PDF under X KB
